The Willow Lookout

A two-platform oak treehouse with rope bridge, slide and climbing wall — designed around a mature willow for a family of five who wanted a space the children wouldn't outgrow.

The brief

A treehouse for three children aged 4–11, with enough adventure for the eldest and safe access for the youngest — and it had to feel part of the garden, not a kit dropped into it.

The challenge

The willow couldn't take structural load on its own, and access to the rear garden was through a 90cm side gate — everything had to be carried in and built by hand on site.

Our solution

Two self-supporting oak platforms wrapped around the willow, linked by a rope bridge — so the tree carries no weight and the structure will outlive the childhood it was built for.

“Every visitor asks who built it. The kids are outside in all weathers now — it's the best thing we've ever added to the house.”
